Now that the weather is changing and you are all getting your boats dusted off. Here are some dates to get on the fridge. For those of you trying for selection we need you to attend 2 Provincials and the Youth Nationals.
EC Dinghy Champs are this week end 25th & 26th Aug in PE.
NR Optimist Provincials 1st & 2nd Sept at Aeolians Club, Vaal Dam. Entries on http://www.windsail.co.za .
2018 Optimist African Championships: Maputo Mozambique- 29th Nov – 5th Dec
SAS Youth Nationals 15th to the 20th December, Stilbaai YC Vaal Dam. All the info you need is continually being updated on http://www.youthnationals.co.za and the face book page.
2018 Optimist World Championships: 26th Aug – 6th Sept.
Good Luck to Matt Ashwell, Keagan Nel, Karl Hofmeyr, Bryan Carstens and Ian Walker, who will be leaving for Cyprus on Friday evening. Results and pictures will be posted on the Optimist Sailing Face book page daily.
Maputo High Performance Optimist camp :
Dates: Saturday 29th September (9 am) to Thursday 4th October (4 pm)
Venue: Club Maritimo, Maputo
Coach: Rudolph Holm – program designed to prepare for African Champs/develop strong racing skills of aspiring sailors.
Registration: by the end of this week (Friday 24th August).
Current attendees: Ingrid and Lena Holm, Jude and Alec Stanley, Rohan Chidley…. and many more to come!
Transportation: each sailor to arrange transportation to the venue. I can collect sailors/accompanying parents from Maputo airport.
Accommodation & Catering: each sailor to arrange own accommodation & catering (see attached B&B details within walking distance from the club, other accommodation options available on Airbnb etc..).
If CT sailors wish to stay with myself/Jude and Alec, please let me know by Wednesday 22nd August.
Packed lunch will be provided during the training, please let me know specific dietary requirements.
Boats: Club Maritimo has offered us the option to charter optimists for free : please let me know by the end of this week, if you need a boat.
Cost: will be able to confirm final cost once number of attendees finalised : we are currently looking at ZAR 1200 per sailor for the camp.
