The Optimist Europeans Racing starts Tuesday 20 October through to Saturday 24 October in Slovenia, Potoroz. There are 270 competitors 160 boys and 110 Girls. The fleets are split with the boys racing separately from the girls. Nicola is representing South Africa at the event. Nicola is being chaperoned by the Spanish team and coached by one of the Spanish national team coaches.

After winning the South African National championship at Theewaters in December last year Nicola has had the opportunity to compete at two Spanish International events, Torrevieja Optimist Trophy and the Palamos International regatta, finishing in the gold fleet in both. Following a shortened Balearic selection series Nicola then competed in the Spanish Championship where she finished 4th overall and first girl. As Nicola is a South African National and resident in Spain the next logical step was to enter her in the European Championship. With the complexities of travel and number of people allowed to accompany the sailor to the regattas we have teamed up with Spanish team to make this happen. We are looking forward to seeing how things develop during the week and I know Nicola feels very privileged to have this opportunity at this time.

Measurement today and practice day tomorrow in the lead up to Tuesday first days racing. The forecast looks light as expected building through the week.
