Optimist Sailing SA Technical Update
At Youth National 2016 a main sheet block system was queried by some parents. It appeared that the system was a 4 block system that could be adjusted to a 3 block system while racing by releasing a toggle allowing the 4th block to drop the floor. The Class Secretary noted this system and we sent it to IODA for a ruling.
The ruling returned to us was that the system, if adjustable during racing, is illegal. Please note the class rules below.
Parents are advised in future that such a system could lead to a protest and disqualification.
A four block system is allowed, however any system that allows it to be changed while racing must be disabled.
Optimist Africans and Worlds 2019 Venue & Age Limit
At a vote at Worlds 2017 in Thailand, the decision was made to hold the Africans 2019 in the Seychelles and Worlds 2019 in Antigua.
The age limit for Optimist sailors was unchanged.
