Alex Falcon ‘Optimist of the Month’ – May 2017

Alex has recently won the Western Cape Championships as well as the selections regatta for Worlds and has been selected to travel to Thailand to compete in the 2017 Optimist Worlds.

Alex is a quite humble young man and is very particular about this equipment. He is quite serious about his sailing but also has a fun side when off the water.

Alex comes from a sailing background with a father who works for a yachting company and a sister who competed in Dabchicks. Alex has also recently returned from a training camp at Lake Garda in Italy.

Chiara Fruet ‘Optimist of the Month’ – April 2017

Chiara has developed a passion for Optimist sailing and always motivates others to join her. She arranges for others to come and join her on the water.

She has travelled extensively to Europe to compete in International regattas to improve her sailing skills. Chiara returns after these trips to share her newly gained knowledge with other sailors. She will soon compete in a Selections regatta in order to qualify for Worlds 2017 in Thailand.

She is always cheerful and smiling and is an asset to the Optimist Class. Chiara will go on to become an ambassador in any sport that she pursues.

Thomas Slater ‘Optimist of the Month’ – March 2017

Thomas is a young determined new sailor joining the ranks of the elite.

Thomas doesn’t give up even in winds beyond his capabilities.

He pushes through all his races and finishes despite the odd disappointment.

His almost perfect score in the B fleet at Youth Nationals speaks words.
